180Fixing: Clearing the ARP cache
posted by lukmanf on December 22nd, 2008
Yesterday, when I try to do a ‘repair’ on my wireless connections, I get this error message:
Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following operation could not be completed: Clearing the ARP cache. For assistance, contact the person who manages your network
I am sure that this is caused by a bug in Microsoft Windows. This bug occurs when Routing and Remote Services is enabled.
To fix this, simple disable your Routing and Remote Services. Here is the steps to disable it:
1. Click the “Start” button
2. Click the “Control Panel> button
3. Switch to “Classic View” if you are in “Category View”
4. Click “Administrative Tools”
5. Click “Computer Management”
6. Double-click “Services and Applications”
7. Double-click “Services”
8. Scroll down to “Routing and Remote Services”
9. Double-click “Routing and Remote Services”
10. Examine the “Startup Type”
11. The options are “Automatic”, “Manual”, and “Disabled”
12. Set the “Startup Type” to “Disabled”
13. Examine the “Service status”
14. Make sure that the service status is Stopped. If it is not Stopped, click the “Stop” button
15. Click the “OK” button.
Now, try repairing your connection again and it should complete with no error messages. Restarting your computer is not needed.
